'Not many photographers have the experience, knowledge or skill to photograph a wedding in a variety of different styles. You may come across an accomplished photo journalist but if you would like any formal photos of your family then you could be disappointed, equally a more “traditional” style of photographer may not have the instinct to know when to seek a picture of an incident which is about to happen.
With 26 years experience under his belt Neil Palmer is one of a handful of photographers in the UK who can, without question, deliver consistently outstanding results time after time. Regardless of whether he is photographing the bride getting ready and being totally unobtrusive as he does so, the raw emotion between the bride and her groom as he sees her walking towards him down the aisle and they exchange vows or the simple carefree skipping of flower girls as they enjoy the excitement of their first wedding, Neil never misses a shot or an opportunity. When it comes to bridal and couple portraits he perfectly places the couple where they need to be to make beautiful pictures.
When I look at Neil’s website galleries and blog I see picture after picture showing emotion – happiness, joy, reflection. For example - a bridesmaid adjusting the veil for a final time and then, overcome with emotion falling into the brides arms for a hug as it dawns on her how beautiful she looks on her way to meet her husband to be. A flower girl hugging both bride and groom at the same time as the sun goes down on the beach. Each and every picture tells a story.
The story telling in Neil’s photography is particularly special as it continues from picture to picture without being disjointed. So for example with the bridesmaid adjusting the veil whereas most photographers would have taken that picture as a stand alone image, Neil’s instinct told him to keep shooting and he caught the subsequent picture as the bridesmaid began to cry with joy. The flower girl on the beach – Neil had just taken a perfectly composed photograph of the couple. At a time when many photographers, happy with what they had caught would have turned to walk away Neil kept shooting and captured perfectly the moment the flower girl went for her hug. The ensuing picture is full of warmth and love between not two but three people. It is special and will be treasured by not only the couple but also the little girl as she grows older. This is the “gift” that couples have when they choose Neil as their photographer. Todays memories become tomorrow’s treasured heirlooms.'
