I was delighted when Jessie and Piranavan (aka PV) asked me to photograph their wedding last December. This was no ordinary wedding however. This was a full day celebration starting from 7:30 am in the morning until late in the evening which started with a traditional Catholic church ceremony and concluding with a Sri Lankan Hindu ceremony.
I love photographing Asian weddings as there is so much colour and ceremony with lots going on all day. Even though they are full day events there is no chance you’ll get bored and you wont notice any fatigue or tiredness creeping in (that’s saved for the day after ! ). The day passes in a flash. One great thing about Jessie and PV’s wedding was that it was literally on my doorstep. I started with a visit to Jessie’s parents home nearby in Lower Earley for the preps. I then made my way to the church, Our Lady of Peace in Wokingham Road which is a few hundred yards from my studio. After a lovely service with an interesting Philippino ceremony in the middle we all headed to the The Moat House in Sindlesham for lunch. Once finished we all headed to Reading Town Hall for the main part of the day.
The Mandap looked amazing in the theatre and this was where the Hindu ceremony was held in front of 200+ guests. A very moving ceremony with lots of pomp, colour and traditional Sri Lankan music. A magnificent vegetarian buffet shortly followed and then straight into the speeches and cake cutting. Jessie’s Dad then sang a few songs with his guitar before the the first dance and disco. A couple of amazing Dhol players joined in with the disco which was rocking within minutes and lasted all evening.
That was the conclusion for an amazing and unforgettable day. It was also great to meet my lovely friend and fantastic make up artist Joyce Connor from Brides and Beauty. Joyce is based in Reading like myself and we often bump into each other at weddings.
Below are some of my many favourites so please feel free to have a look and to leave any comments.
